I've been itching to write this review for a while now. This is my first ever book review and if I'm honest I don't think I could have chosen a better book to review first. For years I've been in and out of reading, not being able to finish a book I've started. I guess this review is a thank you to C.L. Taylor because after buying this book I was immediately hooked and couldn't put it down. I read it within two days! I can't remember the last time I was so invested in a book. Since, I've gone on to read C.L. Taylor's previous books 'The Fear' (2018) and 'The Escape' (2017) and they are just as thrilling!

*SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW*

'Sleep' (2019) is a psychological thriller which follows the life of Anna who is crushed by guilt after a car accident that kills two of her co-workers. Anna soon develops insomnia and starts receiving chilling messages from an anonymous person. Fearing for her life and breaking up with her boyfriend, she flees to Rum, a secluded island off the coast of Scotland to start a new life. A new job at a hotel means only one thing. Seven guests. Seven strangers. And little does she know that her stalker is amongst them. It is a race against time to figure out who it is when mysterious things start to happen at the hotel, especially when someone at the hotel suddenly dies. Anna's insomnia gets worse, but can she make sense of it in time and get the closure she's been looking for?

Without giving too much away, this psychological thriller was so hard to put down. That's the art of C.L. Taylor's work, there's always a twist in the tale that will catch you off guard and make you want to read on and on. The end of each chapter is finely executed as the story begins to unfold as we learn more about the mysteries surrounding the characters. I love that 'Sleep' in particular had view points from different characters and how they react to the plot of the novel, but always stays focused on the protagonist, Anna.

The two themes of this novel are guilt and revenge. We watch Anna's journey as the weight of her guilt becomes too much for her to bear, which soon unravels through her insomnia. This is all while the antagonist of the novel is hellbent on revenge to make matters even worse for Anna.

As a final note to this review I would give it a star rating of 5/5. Because of this novel, I've started reading books again and it's been a long time since I've been able to pick up a book and read it all the way through. I highly recommend this novel. You can purchase it in paperback at your local book shop or buy it off the Amazon Kindle Store. I highly recommend this page turner and you won't be disappointed by the ending!
